Salicornia

Tubular, thickened stems are typical of Salicornia, which is also know as samphire or glasswort. The thicker the stems, the fresher the plant. And what's in a name: this plant grows mainly on salt marshes, on the edge of the sea. No wonder it has this unique salty taste. This typical salty taste goes hand in glove with a wide variety of salads. Salicornia is also delicious when combined with with heavily seasoned chicken or lamb.
